Lockdown: Pune Police take action against 1600 people for violations, over 15,000 travel passes issued

Pune, 17 July 2020: The Pune City Police have launched offensive against people violating the strict lockdown. Police said that the action will continue throughout the lockdown period till July 23.

According to police, from July 14 till 5 pm today FIRs were registered against 794 persons for an offence under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Also, 397 vehicles were seized, while notices were served to 320 persons. Police also took action against 102 people for not wearing a mask.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh told Punekarnews.in, “We have put 103 nakabandi points in daytime and 55 in the night. We appeal to people to follow the lockdown rule and stay at home.”

As per the lockdown rule, only milk selling and its home delivery are allowed besides opening of medical stores and hospitals. Also, industrial units and IT companies (with 15% of staff) are allowed to operate. However, their employees have to get vehicle passes from their companies before travelling. Caretakers for senior citizens and ill persons are also allowed to work with prior permission from police.

According to police in the last five days, 8696 passes were issued to people for going to hospital and 5523 passes were issued for other emergency travel. Other passes were related to exempted categories who have already been permitted to operate e.g. bank , LPG, in-situ construction activities, hospital, pharmacy etc.

As per Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) lockdown guidelines, E-commerce companies Flipkart, Amazon etc. are allowed to operate from 19th July onwards. Therefore, earlier passes given to them will be extended. They can apply for new passes on www.punepolice.in, DCP Singh said.

Pune police said that pass will be issued to people for medical emergency and essential service through www.punepolice.in website without charging any fee.
