New Delhi, 20 April 2021: In his first address to the nation during the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the states to focus on micro containment zones and not lockdown.

He said, “India has made the cheapest vaccine. The pharma sector has ramped up the production of medicine. We are working towards increasing the beds and building more hospitals. The vaccines will be available in government hospitals free of cost to people from economically weaker sections of society.

We gain confidence from the fact that our healthcare workers, frontline workers and a large part of our senior citizens have already been vaccinated. The states should give confidence to workers to stay wherever they are and not go back (to their villages). They will get the vaccine.

People should come forward to help each other. Youths should come forward and form committees in their areas and help the administration in creating awareness about COVID protocols. There will no need for a containment zone, curfew or lockdown.”
