Lonavala Rain Update: Hill Town Records 3,199 mm Rainfall This Monsoon, IMD Forecasts More Heavy Showers

Pune, 25th July 2026: Lonavala continued to witness incessant rainfall over the past few days, with intermittent heavy showers lashing the hill town throughout Thursday. While the rain, strong winds and dense fog blanketing the surrounding hills enhanced the region’s scenic beauty, they also disrupted normal life and affected vehicular movement.
According to the Lonavala Municipal Council’s rainfall monitoring centre, the town received 131 mm (5.16 inches) of rainfall in the 24-hour period between 8.30 am on July 22 and 8.30 am on July 23. With this, the cumulative rainfall for the current monsoon season has reached 3,199 mm (125.94 inches).
In comparison, Lonavala had recorded 3,130 mm of rainfall during the corresponding period last year, indicating that the hill station has received 69 mm more rainfall so far this monsoon.
Heavy rain led to waterlogging at several locations, forcing motorists to drive cautiously. Two-wheeler riders and pedestrians also faced inconvenience due to waterlogged roads and continuous showers.
Dense fog reduced visibility along the Mumbai-Pune Old Highway and parts of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway through the ghat section. Motorists were advised to switch on their headlights and drive at reduced speeds to ensure safety.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, a large number of tourists visited popular monsoon destinations such as Bhushi Dam, Lion’s Point and Tiger Point to enjoy the misty landscape and rainy weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall over the ghat region over the next few days. Authorities have advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, streams and waterfalls, and strictly follow safety advisories issued by the administration.
The Lonavala Municipal Council and emergency response agencies said they are closely monitoring the situation and have taken necessary precautionary measures to respond to any rain-related emergencies.
