Pune, 26th June 2025: The Maharashtra Education Department has initiated the second phase of its teacher recruitment drive, releasing the general merit list for interview-based appointments. Out of 8,556 sanctioned vacancies across 1,861 managements, 8,264 posts have been recommended for recruitment, based on post availability and candidate preferences.

A total of 12,966 candidates have been shortlisted for interviews, which are being conducted through the state’s PAVITRA (Pavitra) online platform—a centralized system for teacher recruitment in local self-government and private aided schools.

The second phase follows the first recruitment phase held in February 2024, during which around 11,000 posts were filled. In the current phase, 1,114 candidates have already been recommended without requiring interviews. The focus now shifts to posts where interviews and teaching skill assessments are mandatory.

To standardize the recruitment process and evaluate teaching competencies effectively, the Education Department has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The merit lists have been released management-wise across multiple categories, including:

Classes 1 to 5
Classes 6 to 8
Classes 9 to 10
Classes 11 to 12
Teacher Training Colleges

The department has also clarified that 177 teaching posts under 81 managements have been withdrawn from the recruitment process due to administrative reasons. No interviews or assessments will be held for these vacancies. The updated vacancy positions are now available on the official PAVITRA portal.

The ongoing recruitment phase will proceed with interviews of shortlisted candidates, who will be called based on their rank in the merit list and availability of posts. This step is critical in ensuring quality appointments across Maharashtra’s school education system.
