Maharashtra cancels exams of 1st to 8th standard : School Edn Minister Prof Varsha Gaikwad

Mumbai, Mar 20/03/2020: In view of the seriousness of the coronavirus outbreak situation in the State, the government has canceled examinations of students from standard 1 to 8, Maharashtra School Education Minister Prof. Varsha Gaikwad announced today. She was addressing a specially convened press conference in this regard.

The Minister said that this decision was taken in view of the health of school-going children. All the examinations of standard 1 to 8 are canceled and these students will be promoted to the next class based on the evaluation of their performance in the year, she said. The remaining examination of 9th and 11th standard students will be conducted after April 15. However, the two papers of class 10th board exam scheduled for Saturday and Monday will be conducted as per the time table, she said.

She said that barring those teachers and non-teaching staff required for class 10th board examination, all other employees are directed to work from home. She advised the children and their guardians to take care to arrest the spread of coronavirus. All should follow the government instructions in this regard, she said.
