Pune, 14th August 2025: Vehicle owners in Maharashtra have been granted more time to install High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), with the state government extending the deadline to November 30, 2025. Officials have made it clear that from December 1, enforcement teams will launch a statewide crackdown on vehicles without the mandatory plates.

“After November 30, no further extensions will be granted. From December 1, we will conduct special drives and penalise violators under the Motor Vehicles Act,” said a senior officer from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune.

The HSRP mandate, aimed at improving vehicle identification and curbing theft, has been implemented across the state, but compliance remains low. Officials cited widespread delays, technical issues in the installation process, and a backlog in appointments as reasons for granting the extension.

This marks the fourth time the deadline has been pushed back. The plates, which come with a unique laser-engraved code, are tamper-proof and help law enforcement trace stolen vehicles more efficiently.

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, failure to install HSRP after the deadline can attract fines, vehicle seizure, or other legal action.
