Pune/Jalgaon, 28th April 2025: A former CRPF sub-inspector shot his daughter dead and critically injured her husband after they eloped, in a shocking incident that unfolded at a family function in Chopda town, Jalgaon, on Saturday night. The horrific act occurred during a haldi ceremony at around 10:15 PM, leaving guests at the event stunned and horrified.

The accused, Kiran Mangle (52), who arrived uninvited, opened fire with his licensed pistol, shooting his 24-year-old daughter, Trupti, and her husband, Avinash Wagh (28). “Kiran Mangle fired three rounds at the couple. Trupti died instantly from gunshot wounds, while Avinash sustained two bullet injuries—one to his back and the other to his hand. He was later shifted to a hospital in Pune for further treatment,” said Jalgaon SP Maheswar Reddy.

Trupti, an MBBS graduate, had eloped and married Avinash, a helper at a Pune-based company, last year. According to the police, Mangle’s anger stemmed from the fact that his daughter married a man with only a high school education, earning a modest ₹12,000 per month.

Guests at the ceremony quickly reacted to the shooting, physically assaulting Mangle in retaliation. “The guests immediately kicked and punched Mangle. He suffered significant injuries and is currently being treated at Jalgaon Civil Hospital,” SP Reddy confirmed.

The police have recovered the firearm used in the crime. Based on a complaint filed by Avinash’s mother, Chopda police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections, including 103(1) (murder) and 109(1) (attempted murder) against Kiran Mangle.

According to the police, Mangle traveled approximately 50 kilometers from his home in Shirpur (Dhule district) after learning that his daughter and her husband were attending the ceremony in Chopda. “When Mangle learned they were in Chopda for the family event, he decided to confront them, which led to the tragic incident,” added SP Reddy.

Trupti, who had completed her MBBS from a private college in Pune, and Avinash had been living in Pune. Their marriage had angered Mangle, who disapproved of his daughter’s choice due to her husband’s lower educational qualifications and modest income.
