Maharashtra Government Announces Substantial Increase in Internship Salary for Medical College Students

Pune, 15th February 2024: The Maharashtra State Government has approved a substantial increase in the internship salary for medical college students. The decision, made during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, sees a notable hike of Rs. 7,000, bringing the monthly stipend for internship students to Rs. 18,000 instead of the previous Rs. 11,000.
The cabinet meeting also addressed concerns related to the tuition fees of trainees in government and aided medical, dental, Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathy colleges across the state. Previously, these students were entitled to a tuition fee of Rs. 11,000 per month. However, the recent decision mandates an increase to Rs. 18,000 per month, effective from February 2024.
An important aspect of the decision is the inclusion of candidates who have completed their medical degree courses abroad. Such candidates will also be entitled to the revised salary of Rs. 18,000 per month during their internship, bringing about a more equitable remuneration structure for all medical interns.
The move has been welcomed by the medical student community, as it not only addresses their financial concerns but also recognizes the efforts and contributions made during the crucial internship phase.
