Maharashtra government demands Central Paramilitary forces ahead of Eid

Mumbai, May 13, 2020: The Maharashtra police department is working day and night in the state against the backdrop of Coronavirus outbreak. They are burdened with extra work. State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said that 20 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), i.e. 2000 Central Police, have been requested to assist the police in maintaining law and order. The Home Minister has shared a video on Twitter in this regard.

“With many police personnel testing positive for #COVID19, long & challenging work hours are leaving Maharashtra police stretched. Ramzan Eid is also on May 25th. To help maintain law & order the state has requested 20 companies of CAPF to be deployed,” said Deshmukh.

Currently, 32 companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) are assisting the police department. But due to the constant work stress, the police also need rest. Given this, Deshmukh has immediately requisitioned 20 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in the state.

The state has a large number of Coronavirus positive patients. More than a thousand policemen in Maharashtra have been infected with corona. Eight of them have died. Police are fighting against Corona on the front line like health workers. But it is these Corona warriors who have become infected, raising concerns. So far, five policemen from the Mumbai police force and one each from the Pune, Nashik and Solapur police forces have lost their lives.
