Mumbai, May 6, 2020: Those stranded in the state will be taken to their homes by state transport (ST) buses. Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Vijay Wadettiwar has said that the government will also pay for the travel expenses.

Wadettiwar said 10,000 ST buses would take people stranded in the state to their homes. The cost of the trip will be borne by the Relief and Rehabilitation Department. The expected cost is around Rs 20 crore. Wadettiwar also said that the implementation of this decision will start from tomorrow. In the next two days, people stranded in the state will be taken to their homes by ST, Wadettiwar said.

He said that people are stranded in many districts of Maharashtra. “The Minister of Transport has permitted us to provide buses for taking these people to their homes. The government will provide free ST buses to people stranded in different districts of Maharashtra. For this, we will provide around Rs 20 crore from the Relief and Rehabilitation Department to the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation. Even if it costs more, it will be paid,” Wadettivar said.

It has been decided to provide free ST services to the people stranded due to the Coronavirus outbreak lockdown. The decision has been taken to send all the stranded students, laborers and relatives in all the districts of the state including Mumbai and Pune in the next four to five days, said Wadettiwar.
