Pune, 22nd May 2022: Ali Daruwala, national spokesperson of All India Petrol Dealers Association (AIPDA), informed that “the Central government collects the excise duty at the rate of Rs 20 per litre on petrol and Rs 16 per litre on diesel. Compared to it, the Maharashtra state government is collecting Rs 32 per litre on petrol and Rs 20 on diesel from customers. If the prices are brought on par with the Central government then the prices may go down up to Rs 90 per litre for petrol and Rs 70 for diesel for the customers.”

Maharashtra state government today slashed the Value-added tax (VAT) on petrol by Rs 2.08 per litre and diesel by Rs 1.44 per litre. This will further reduce the fuel prices in the state as the Central Government has already reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel.

“Yesterday, the Central Government reduced the excise duty on petrol by Rs 9.5 per litre and that of diesel by Rs 7.5 per litre. Hence, the petrol price was reduced by Rs 9.09 and diesel by Rs 7.31. The state government has further reduced the VAT which will further make the fuel prices cheaper,” Daruwala said.

Ali further requested Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to reduce the tax on petrol and diesel matching it up with the rates of the Central government for the benefit of the people.
