Maharashtra may face less-than-average rainfall this monsoon season, says IMD
Pune, 11th April 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its official report on this year’s monsoon season, predicting that the country will receive 96 per cent (+/- 5 per cent) of the average rainfall.
The report also warns of the adverse effects of ‘El Nino’ in the second half of the monsoon and the possibility of less-than-average rainfall in Maharashtra this season. Skymet, a private organization, has recently predicted that the rainfall will be up to 94 per cent of the average.
The IMD’s report comes amid concerns about the impact of climate change on India’s agriculture sector, which heavily relies on the monsoon season.
