Maharashtra: ST buses to bring back 1800 students trapped in Kota Rajasthan
Mumbai, April 26, 2020: The way has been cleared to bring back students from Maharashtra who are stranded at Kota in Rajasthan. According to sources, these students will be brought to Maharashtra by State Transport (ST) corporation buses. It is also learned that while bringing these students from Kota, health safety and social distance will be fully complied with.
The government had announced to bring the students trapped in the quota. But how to bring them? There was no clarity about this. But now that the red buses (ST) of Maharashtra is going to run to bring these students, the worries of many parents have disappeared.
According to information received from the state government, some students had arranged vehicles at Kota. They needed permission to travel. The state government has obtained permission. As a result, some students have already left Kota and they will go directly to their district. ST buses will run from the state for other students. These buses will drop them off in the district where the students have their homes.
Millions of students go to Kota in Rajasthan every year to prepare for IIT, Medical entrance exams. They also include thousands of students from Maharashtra. About 1,500 to 2,000 students who went to Kota to study this year were hit by the lockdown. The first lockdown was to end on April 14. At that time, the students were told to stay there till April 14. Accordingly, the students stopped there. However, as the lockdown was extended till May 3, the stranded students had demanded to return to Maharashtra. In this regard, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray contacted Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and discussed to bring the students back to the state.
In this context, the state has informed Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat about the travel of students through letters. The way has been cleared for the stranded students at Kota to return home. They will leave Rajasthan and travel through Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat to Maharashtra. The state has informed the concerned states about this in a letter. After returning to Maharashtra, the students will be subjected to a health check-up and quarantined for 14 days.
The work of bringing 1800 students from Maharashtra from Kota, Rajasthan will start in the next two days. Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar said in a tweet yesterday that all students would be brought in a week. He said that district wise details of students have been prepared for easy movement of students buses.
Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress President Satyajit Tambe, showing sensitivity in the matter, had demanded the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra and Rajasthan to allow the students to return home. Meanwhile, Aditya Thackeray had tweeted to Satyajit Tambe that both the state governments were working to bring the students back safely. Tambe had asked the state Chief Minister to respond to the Rajasthan government’s efforts in this regard, as well as asked to send the MPSC students stranded in Pune to reach their homes.
