Maharashtra Technical Education Institutes Mandate Online Application for Admission Cancellation; New Refund Rules Announced
Pune, 27th June 2025: Students seeking to cancel admissions at technical education institutes in Maharashtra will now be required to submit their requests online, according to new regulations published by the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department. As per the recently released government gazette for the 2025 admission cycle, if a student cancels admission before the specified final date, the institute must refund the full fee after deducting a processing charge of Rs 1,000, and return all original documents within two days.
The new rules, which apply to unaided private professional educational institutions offering full-time undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, or dual degree technical courses, also clarify that cancellations after the final date will not be eligible for any refund except for security and caution deposits. The online application for admission cancellation will be deactivated after the deadline, and students will then need to approach the institution directly for any further requests.
The gazette also outlines a centralized admission process, including four rounds of seat allocation and specific guidelines for collaborative (twinning) courses. Eligibility for first-year admission to collaborative undergraduate and postgraduate courses will remain the same as for regular courses, with any additional criteria determined by the relevant authorities.
For institute-level admissions, seats remaining vacant after centralized rounds must be filled transparently by the institutions, with applications accepted up to the date of the final CAP (Centralized Admission Process) round. If a candidate cannot apply directly to the institute, they will have the opportunity to apply via the authorized website until the final allocation date, after which applications will be forwarded to the respective institutes for consideration.
To cancel admission, candidates must submit an online request and provide a signed copy of the application to the institute. Once the online request is submitted, the cancellation is considered effective.
