Maharashtra to Launch ‘Anand Gurukul’ Skill-Based Residential Schools Across All Divisions

Pune, 19th April 2025: The Maharashtra School Education Department has announced the launch of eight new residential schools named “Anand Gurukul”—one in each educational division—starting from the 2025–26 academic year. These schools aim to promote both academic and personal development in students, with a focus on modern, practical skills.
Each school will cater to 200 students from grades 9 to 12 and will offer a blend of regular academics and specialized training in areas such as sports, arts, technology, communication, Artificial Intelligence (AI), sustainable development, and more. The objective is to prepare students for higher education and equip them for future careers in these fields.
To ensure smooth implementation, a study group led by the Education Commissioner has been tasked with selecting school sites, designing special curricula, and setting up the admission process and school calendar. A subcommittee has also been formed under the Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training’s (SCERT) leadership to assist with the initiative.
The government also plans to evaluate and select existing schools in good condition, particularly those similar to the “Vidyāniketan” model already functioning in five districts, for use as Anand Gurukuls in the remaining three divisions. A comprehensive proposal with infrastructure details and required funding will be submitted for final approval.
