Mahatma Gandhi’s Great Grandson Tushar Gandhi Lodges Defamation Complaint Against Sambhaji Bhide in Pune
Pune 10th August 2023: The great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi Tushar Gandhi had lodged a complaint with Pune City Police against hindutva leader Sambhaji Bhide for his objectionable remark against Mahatma Gandhi at an event in Amravati. The criminal defamation complaint has been filed against Sambhaji Bhide and the organisers of an event in Amravati where he used the objectionable remark against Mahatma Gandhi’s lineage.
Speaking to reporters after lodging the complaint in the matter Tushar Gandhi said “Deputy Chief Minister had assured a strict action in the matter within a month but there has been no action so far. We have lodged a complaint against Bhide and the organisers of the event.”
He also said that the comment made by Bhide was very serious as he talked about Bapu’s parents. Being a public figure criticism of Mahatma Gandhi often happens but this was a very serious statement and a strict action is needed. We trust the judiciary system and we hope for justice, he said.
Advocate Asim Sarode who accompanied Tushar Gandhi to the police station said “We have demanded to register a case under sections 499, 153(a), 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with other relevant sections. The police have said that they will investigate the matter and lodge a case.”
