21st December 2023: Mahindra is gearing up to introduce the highly anticipated new generation Thar 5 Door in the Indian market. Recent spy images of the upcoming model provide insights into its interior, revealing a larger touchscreen infotainment system, new leather seats, redesigned dashboard, Mahindra XUV700-inspired steering wheel, and an all-black interior theme. A distinctive feature in the spy image is the inclusion of an electrically adjustable sunroof, a rarity among off-roading SUVs. Additional amenities comprise a black roof line, front-mounted speakers, height-adjustable seat belts, and dedicated AC units for rear passengers.

The design of the Mahindra 5 Door Thar is undergoing significant changes, encompassing a redesigned front profile, new LED lighting setup, LED fog lights, a revised bumper, and the addition of a side door in the profile. Newly designed alloy wheels and a revamped rear side with LED tail lights and a revised bumper further enhance its aesthetics. The safety features are anticipated to receive an upgrade, with the possibility of standard six airbags in the five-door Thar, in addition to existing safety features like ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill descent control, traction control, rear parking sensor with camera, and seat belt reminder for all passengers.

Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar 5 Door is expected to retain its current engine options, possibly with modified power outputs. The existing Thar offers three engine choices, and while specifics are yet to be confirmed, changes in power outputs are anticipated. The anticipated price range for the new model is Rs 15 to 16 lakh in the Indian market, positioning it as a competitive offering. The launch is scheduled with the advent of the new year, although the exact month remains undisclosed.

Post-launch, the Mahindra Thar 5 Door will contend with rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha 5 Door in the Indian market. Leaked documents reveal seven trademarked names for the model, including Thar Armada, Thar Centurion, Thar Cult, Thar Roxx, Thar Savannah, Thar Rex, and Thar Gladius.
