Hyderabad, 23rd April 2024: In Peddapalli district of Telangana, a part of an under-construction bridge over the Manair river collapsed between Monday and Tuesday midnight. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in this incident. The incident occurred in Odedu village of Mutharam Mandal, where two girders collapsed due to strong winds. Luckily, the incident happened late at night when no one was present at the site. The villagers informed the police about the incident on Tuesday.

The construction of the one-kilometer-long bridge has been ongoing since 2016. However, due to changing contractors and a lack of funds, there have been consistent delays in the construction work. Meanwhile, local residents have started using an alternative temporary route. The construction of this bridge was being carried out to connect Jayashankar Bhupalpally district’s Odedu to Garmillapalli village. The foundation for the bridge was laid in 2016. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 47.40 crore and it was targeted to be completed within a year. Once the bridge is completed, it is expected to reduce the distance between Manthani and Parkal along with Bhupalpally and Jammikunta towns by approximately 50 kilometers.

Local residents were using a temporary road under the bridge for commuting. Frustrated locals expressed that even after eight years, the bridge could not be completed because the contractor had halted the work midway.
