Major Traffic Diversions Announced in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad for World Bicycle Day Cyclothon on June 7, Sunday

Pune/Pimpri Chinchwad, 6th June 2026: To celebrate World Bicycle Day, the Pune Cycling Federation of India, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and local municipal corporations are jointly organizing a massive cycle race and the “Sunday on Cycle” Cyclothon on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

In light of the event, the Traffic Branches of both Pune City Police and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have announced temporary, extensive traffic diversions and road closures. The restrictions will be in place on Sunday from 05:30 AM to 10:30 AM (or as required) to ensure a vehicle-free route for the participants and to maintain public safety.

Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune City, and Vikrant Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pimpri-Chinchwad, have issued official notifications under Sections 115, 116, and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, detailing the closed corridors and recommended alternate routes.

1. Pune City Jurisdiction: Routes and Diversions
The primary cycle race under Pune City jurisdiction will traverse through major areas of Baner, Balewadi, and Aundh.
The Race Route (Closed to General Traffic)
Radha Chowk – Ganraj Chowk – High Street Chowk – Mamta Chowk – Dasara Chowk – Lakshmi Mata Chowk – Ganesh Dutt Mandir Chowk – Jupiter Hospital Chowk – Murkute Chowk – Tamhane Chowk – Vidhate Chowk – Nagaras Road – Bhale Chowk – Rajiv Gandhi Bridge – Aundh P.M.T. Depot.

2. Pimpri-Chinchwad Jurisdiction: Routes and Diversions
The “Sunday on Cycle” Cyclothon in Pimpri-Chinchwad will cover the stretch from Rajiv Gandhi Bridge to Jagtap Dairy Chowk, as well as the Kalewadi Phata – Punawale – Aundh Ravet BRTS Road, Mukai Chowk, and Ankush Chowk returning loop.
To facilitate this, major traffic changes have been made in the Sangvi, Wakad, and Dehu Road traffic divisions.

Closed Routes and Recommended Alternate Routes
Dhor Patil Underpass to D-Mart (Sangvi Division)
Restriction: Closed for all types of vehicular traffic.
Alternate Route: Commuters can travel from Rajiv Gandhi Bridge via Brehmen Chowk using alternative routes to reach their destinations.
Brehmen Chowk to Dhor Patil Underpass (towards D-Mart)
Restriction: Closed for all types of vehicular traffic.
Alternate Route: Divert from Bremen Chowk via alternative arterial roads.

Shivar Chowk to Kalewadi Chowk (via Jagtap Dairy Chowk)
Restriction: Closed for all types of vehicular traffic.
Alternate Route: Vehicles heading from Shivar Chowk to Kalewadi Phata must use the Jagtap Dairy Underpass, proceed towards Savitribai Phule Garden, take a U-turn, and utilize the left-side service road of Jagtap Dairy Chowk to reach Kalewadi Phata.

Kaspate Chowk to Jagtap Dairy Chowk
Restriction: Closed for all types of vehicular traffic.
Alternate Route: Commuters should use the Jagtap Dairy Underpass or detour via Shivar Chowk to reach their destinations.

Kala Khadak area to Dange Chowk
Restriction: Closed for all types of vehicular traffic.
Alternate Route: Vehicles should divert via the Dange Chowk Underpass and proceed through Thergaon Phata.

Birla Hospital to Dange Chowk
Restriction: Closed for all types of vehicular traffic.
Alternate Route: Commuters from Birla Hospital must use the Dange Chowk Underpass to cross safely.

Bhakti Shakti Chowk to Kiwale Bridge (near Mukai Chowk)
Restriction: All incoming vehicular traffic on this stretch is completely prohibited.
Alternate Route: Commuters are advised to divert via Mhaske Vasti Chowk to reach Kiwale/Mukai Chowk.

Exemptions & Police Appeal
The Traffic Police authorities have clarified that essential and emergency services are completely exempted from these restrictions. This includes:
Fire Brigades
Police Vehicles
Ambulances
Vehicles officially associated with the cycling competition
The administration appeals to all citizens, residents, and motorists to plan their journeys in advance, use the specified alternate routes, and cooperate with on-duty traffic police officers and volunteers to ensure the success of the event.
