Delhi, 22nd March 2024: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has openly criticized the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, marking a moment of unity among opposition leaders in India. Banerjee, a key figure in the Indian political landscape, expressed her disapproval and concern over what she describes as the “deliberate targeting” of elected opposition figures. This move comes amid growing tensions between opposition parties and the central government.

Banerjee conveyed her support to Arvind Kejriwal’s family, directly reaching out to Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind’s wife, to assure her of her solidarity. She highlighted a worrying trend of opposition leaders facing arrests, contrasting it with the leniency shown towards individuals implicated in investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), who she claims continue their activities unhindered post-aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
