Man Posing as Army Officer Arrested in Pune, Tried to Impress Girls Using Fake Uniform and ID

Camp, 29th In a joint operation, the Military Intelligence Unit of the Southern Command, the Southern Command Provost Unit, and Lashkar Police Station apprehended a 25-year-old man allegedly impersonating an Army officer. The suspect, identified as Abhishek Shivaji Bhosale, a native of Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar), was arrested near Bishop’s School in Pune around 2 PM on Tuesday.

The arrest followed a tip-off shared with Lashkar Police by the Military Intelligence and Southern Command Provost Unit. After verification and surveillance, a joint team tracked and detained the suspect.

Police recovered several items typically associated with military personnel from Bhosale’s possession, including:
Two combat uniforms
One pair of DMS (Direct Moulded Sole) shoes
A green belt
A nameplate reading “Abhi Bhosale”
A duplicate Army identity card
Two combat T-shirts
A P-cap, combat cap, and a scarf

Authorities revealed that Bhosale had been posing as an Army officer allegedly to impress women. “Preliminary interrogation indicates that the motive was to gain social attention, particularly from girls,” said a senior official involved in the operation.

The impersonator is currently being jointly questioned by Military Intelligence officials and Lashkar Police. Officials added that they are probing whether any serving military personnel were involved or aided the accused.

An FIR has been registered at Lashkar Police Station under Section 168 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for impersonating a public servant. Further investigation is underway.
