Pune, May 19 – Office bearers of Shiv Sena in Pune on Thursday claimed to have busted a MBA scam, by nabbing two peons of a management who were collecting answersheet from a girl student in Janwadi area.
Later officials from the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) registered a case against two peons Nitin Chandrakant Sawant (40) and Satish Gote (34) from Progressive Education Society has started Institute of Management and Career Development, Nigdi. They were responsible for safe transportation of the examination answer sheets from the college to the assessment center near Appa Balwant chowk.
The girl studied second year Master in Personal Management (MPM) from the institute.
The FIR has been registered with Chatushrungi police station for offences under section 7 (Prohibition of copying and impersonating at examinations) and 8 (Punishment for abetment of offences) of the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board or other specified Examinations Act.
The incident came to light after a raid was conducted by party workers of Kothrud Yuva Sena and police jointly around 1 pm on Thursday at the girl’s residence in Janwadi. The entire incident was video taped by the party workers.
Sandesh Purohit, who was involved in the raid, said, “Sawant was about to open the bunch of answer sheets when we entered the house. The girl would re-write the exam paper which was conducted on Wednesday.”
A team led by Police Sub inspector Anand Sable seized all the answersheets and brought them to Janwadi police chowky. However in the FIR girl’s name was not mentioned. “The case has been registered based on statement of SPPU official. After investigation we will add names of all those who are involved,” PSI Sable said.
Police officials said that the students of the MPM course suspected the girl as she topped the exams even though she would write the papers for few minutes only.
“When we got to know this, we kept a watch on movement of Sawant who visited the girl’s house with examination papers. Sawant used to provide her the answersheet in the evening and collected the same from her next day while going to the assessment centre for submission,” Purohit alleged.
