MBBS student attempts to murder girlfriend after break up

Pune, May 7, 2016: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old final year student of MBBS from Bharati Vidyapeeth medical college allegedly attempted to kill his ex-girlfriend, also his batchmate, for allegedly talking to another youth after their break up.

Pune city police have identified the arrested accused as Shreyansh Chopra, a native of Chhatisgarh, who lives in a flat behind the college in Katraj.

According to police, the incident took place between 7.30 on May 3 and 5 at his flat in Anand Smriti private hostel. The accused had allegedly locked her in the flat.

The girl stated in her complaint she knew him for the 3-4 years as they studied bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS) in same college. They were also in a relationship and had recently broke-up the relationship as Chopra blamed her for back in his third year. Now Chopra was reportedly jealous after she began talking to other friends in the college. He had allegedly abused her aunt and she had slapped him publicly.

On Tuesday around 7.30 pm, Chopra allegedly called her to his room under the pretext of solving the matter. Once she reached there the accused locked her inside the room and tortured her. He assaulted the girl after tying her nude to bed, molested her, threw water on her and even tried to put her face inside a water bucket to kill her. He had taken away her phone and asked her to stay with him for one year and had even asked her roommate to give her belongings. As his parents were to visit him, he dropped her back to her hostel on Thursday afternoon.

The girl was counseled at the hospital and later she lodged a complaint with Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

According to police, Chopra and the complainant both knew each other from past three to four years as they were studying MBBS in same college.

Police Inspector (Crime) Shrikant Shinde of Bharati Vidyapeeth told Pune Mirror, “We have arrested Chopra for offences under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 354B (act with intent to disrobe a woman), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was produced before a magistrate court on Saturday where he has been remanded police custody till May 11.”
