These ancient crops, rich in protein, minerals, vitamins, and fibers, possess the remarkable ability to thrive with minimal water and endure the harshest climatic conditions. Millets being gluten-free render them ideal for individuals with digestive issues. The presence of dietary fibers in millets elevates their nutritional value when compared to wheat and rice. Varieties like Jowar, Bajra, and Ragi are some common millets readily available in the market.

 

These easily accessible and cost-effective grains have played a vital role since ancient times, providing a healthier alternative to many fast foods. Millets, as drought-resistant grains, require minimal attention for cultivation.

 

India’s green revolution witnessed a surge in wheat and rice production, with both grains gaining popularity. Consequently, millet consumption dwindled, leading to the misconception that millets were food reserved for the economically disadvantaged.

 

Diet plays a pivotal role in leading a healthy life. Unfortunately, many urban populations adhere to Western dietary guidelines, where millets hold little significance. Even a considerable portion of the urban Indian population remained unaware of the nutritional importance of millets.

Fast food has been rapidly replacing traditional dietary choices due to its taste and widespread availability. However, it’s crucial to note that fast food often contains alarmingly high levels of sodium compared to millets. According to Ayurveda, millets can be utilized as a therapeutic dietary choice to maintain good health.

 

Millets offer potential health benefits, ranging from cardiovascular health to digestive well-being. They are believed to be among the first domesticated crops and the earliest human food sources. In India, a substantial part of the population still grapples with malnutrition, making millets the ideal choice to meet essential nutritional requirements.

 

India is witnessing a surge in non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular ailments. It’s imperative to adapt to a healthier lifestyle. Millets emerge as the perfect grain to attain a balanced and well-defined state of health for individuals.
