MIM dissolves its city unit after humiliating defeat in Kondhwa bypolls
Maharashtra State President of Hyderabad based All India Majlis E Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Syed Moin has dissolved the Pune City Unit of the party following its disastrous defeat in Kondhwa bypolls a few days ago. Syed in a release issued to the media stated that the party high command had dissolved the entire Pune City Unit of the party led by its city president Sarfaraz Shaikh and also the other office bearers in the backdrop of the party’s defeat in the civic bypolls. The release further added that the party was iming to achieve good results in the upcoming civic polls in 2017 and will reconstitute its executive body and new ward level appointment of office-bearers will be held soon.
It may be recalled that AIMIM candidate Mazhar Maniyar was relegated to the fifth position by a garnering a meagure 1584 votes. Just over 38% people had cast their votes for the ward number 63A seat last Sunday. The bypoll was necessitated after the disqualification of Shiv Sena corporator Bharat Choudhary for allegedly providing a fake caste certificate to the election commission. Choudhary was disqualified after former NCP candidate Hussain Khan lodged a complaint with the election commission seeking his dismissal on grounds of submission of fraudulent documents showing that he was an Other Backward Class (OBC) .
The Shiv Sena under the leadership of former MLA Mahadev Babar has been in power in Kondhwa for almost two decades. The seat was won by Congress Candidate Rais Sundke who bagged 5134 votes against his nearest Sena rival who registered 3667 votes. The results of this election is being looked as a litmus test for next civic polls in 2017.
