Pune: The All India Majlise Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has demanded the state government to give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the 14 students of Pune’s Abeda Inamdar College who died due to drowning while on a college trip to Murud beach on Monday.

AIMIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel met the minority affairs minister Mr Eknath Khadse in Mumbai on Thursday and demanded that the compensation of Rs 2 lakh announced by the state government was too meagre and hence that should be raised.

‘On Wednesday I visited every family and was shocked to know most of the students hailed from poor families. They need financial support,” said Mr Imtiaz Jaleel.

He also demanded that those responsible for the tragic death of these youngsters should be dealt with as per law and action taken. ‘Some accountability has to be fixed,’ he stated.
