Pune, 14th October 2025: The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of Maharashtra, with only pockets of South Vidarbha, including Gadchiroli, still receiving its influence. The Meteorological Department said the monsoon’s return journey has picked up pace, signaling the end of the rainy season across the state.

“This year, the monsoon began its retreat from western Rajasthan on September 14, three days earlier than the long-term normal of September 17. After a brief halt on September 26, it resumed withdrawal and has now almost completely left Maharashtra,” an official from the Meteorological Department said.

Apart from Maharashtra, the monsoon has retreated from Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, most of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and parts of the northeastern states. The current withdrawal boundary stretches from Karwar, Kalaburagi, Nizamabad, Kanker, Kendujhar, and Sagar Island to Guwahati.

The department added that the favorable weather conditions across the state are promising for the upcoming sowing and harvesting season, offering relief to farmers.

This year, the monsoon arrived in Konkan on May 25 and covered the entire Maharashtra by June 17, moving relatively quickly compared to previous years.
