MOTORCYCLE EXPEDITION FROM INS SHIVAJI, LONAVLA TO RANN OF KUTCH AND DWARAKA TO MARK '65 WAR MARTYRS

Punekar News's photo.A Motorcycle Expedition to Rann of Kutch was successfully completed by a contingent of 17 officers of INS Shivaji and INHS Kasturi on 24 Sep 2015. The expedition was led by Commander Debashish Paul. They covered 2700 kms and traversed through the area of Maharashtra and most of Gujrat till the Rann of Kutch. The challenging circuit included Lonavla, Vadodara, Bhuj, Jamnagar and Dwaraka. On an average the team covered 450 kms per day.

The aim of the expedition was to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Indo-Pak War of 1965 and to bring the public memory alive of the sacrifices made by the martyrs and the gallant action of the Indian Armed Forces during the conflict.

The Rann of Kutch and Dwaraka were ideal choice for the motorcycle expedition which witnessed the entire prelude to the Indo-Pak War of 1965 with Dwaraka being the only sea port that saw Naval action during the war.

Punekar News's photo.The team visited the Kendirya Vidyalya-Jamnagar, locals of Limbly village and Dwaraka town explaining Navy’s significance in the 1965 war. The passionate motorcyclists explored roads ranging from National highway to narrow, steep, intricate, zigzagging, mountain roads with blind turns and wet roads. The team has together overcome all the challenges during the trip.

The expedition was flagged off on 18 Sep 15 and received on 24 Sep 15 by Commodore Harish Batra, Station Commander, Lonavla at INS Shivaji.
