Pune : An assistant engineer working with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), was caught red-handed on Tuesday by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Pune unit, for allegedly accepting bribe in kind i.e. a ceiling fan.

The engineer, Ramesh Hingankar working with the Vadgaon Maval office   was a ‘clever’ public servant to nab, ACB officials said.

According to ACB, Hingankar used to ask for bribe as and when he met the victims. He feared that ACB will trap him and thus accepted even Rs 100 or 200 as bribes.

In the present case, a contractor was appointed to install electricity meters in Vadgaon Maval area and he had paid the required fees. However to handover the meters, Hingankar asked for a ceiling fan in bribe and also preferred a particular brand. The contractor approached the ACB which laid a trap and caught Hingankar red handed while accepting the fan in his office in Vadgaon Maval.

An FIR has been registered against Hingankar with Vadgaon Maval police station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
