Mumbai, 7th January 2025: While the Mumbai police have linked the Bishnoi gang to the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi has not been named as a suspect in the case. Despite being implicated in the shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s residence on April 14, 2024, the police have not found sufficient evidence to accuse Bishnoi of Siddique’s murder.

A senior officer explained that in the Salman Khan firing case, an accused person had testified that Lawrence Bishnoi had communicated directly with other suspects via phone calls from Sabarmati Central Jail. The calls were made using two mobile phones on speaker mode to avoid being traced. Based on this testimony, Bishnoi was named an accused in that case.

However, in the case of Baba Siddique’s murder, the officer clarified that it was Lawrence Bishnoi’s younger brother, Anmol, who was in contact with the accused, and no direct link to Lawrence was found. As a result, although the Bishnoi gang was responsible for the crime, Lawrence Bishnoi has not been named in this particular case.

Lawrence Bishnoi remains in Sabarmati Jail, where he is held under the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) custody for security reasons after being charged in a narcotics case. His brother, Anmol Bishnoi, was detained in the U.S. in November last year for attempting to travel with a forged passport and is currently held in Pottawattamie County Jail, Iowa.

Baba Siddique was shot dead on October 12, 2024, in Bandra East, near his son Zeeshan Akhtar’s office. The police have arrested 26 individuals, including the main shooter, in connection with the murder.
