24 Feb 2024: In a gripping inaugural match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024), Mumbai secured a hard-fought victory, overcoming Delhi by 4 wickets.
With just 5 runs needed off the final ball, Mumbai’s S Sanjana emerged as the hero, smashing a six to seal the win. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur lauded Sanjana’s crucial contribution, declaring, “Because of her, I am standing on the podium today.”
Delhi had set a challenging target of 172 runs, spearheaded by Alice Capsey’s impressive 75-run innings, ably supported by Jemimah Rodrigues’ 42 runs. Mumbai’s response was led by Yastika Bhatia’s resilient 57 runs, alongside Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s determined 55 runs, with Amelia Kerr adding 24 runs to secure Mumbai’s triumphant start to the season.
