The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Zilla Parishad Secondary Education Officer Dr Vaishali Veer Zankar for accepting the bribe.
A team from the Thane ACB arrested Zankar for questioning in a bribery case. Since a woman cannot be arrested after sunset as per the law, the team summoned Zankar’s relatives and released her in the middle of the night on the guarantee that she will be arrested the next day. She was instructed to return to the police station in the morning, however, she did not show up at the station and absconded the city, according to the police.
Meanwhile, shocking information came into the light when the ACB team conducted a raid on her house. The team found around 3 acres of land and four apartments under Zankar’s name.

The complainant in the case has an educational institute. The government had sanctioned a grant of 20 per cent to his schools. The complainant sought an order from the accused to start a regular salary for the institute according to the sanctioned grant. However, he was asked to pay Rs nine lakh in order to do so by the accused.
The complainant then agreed to pay Rs 8 lakh as a bribe.
Zankar accepted the bribe through a government driver. The ACB team caught the driver red-handed accepting the bribe.
During the interrogation, the driver said that he had taken the bribe on Zankar’s instructions.
Two persons have already been arrested by the ACB team in connection with the case and have been produced in the district court. The other two arrested accused in the case are government driver Dnyaneshwar Yeole and primary teacher Pankaj Dashpute.
