National Science Day-2025 celebration on IISER Pune Campus
Pune, 28th February 2025: IISER Pune celebrated National Science Day on February 28, 2025, with an exciting celebration that drew around 9,000 visitors, including students, teachers, and science enthusiasts. The event featured thought-provoking talks, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on activities and Astronomy exhibits.
Prof. Umakant Rapol’s session on Quantum Technology traced its historical development, explained the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, and highlighted advancements in quantum computing and its future applications. Padma Shri awardee Arvind Gupta captivated the audience with Little Toys, Big Science, showcasing the wonders of everyday materials through simple yet powerful experiments.
Discussions on Artificial Intelligence explored its definition, evolution, and key differences from the human brain, while another session delved into the origins of life, from primitive molecular structures to complex organisms. Dr. Manawa Diwekar-Joshi’s talk, The Wonders of Water, examined the physical, chemical, and biological
properties of water, emphasizing its role in sustaining life and the need for conservation through interactive activities.
Dr. Neeraja Dashaputre’s captivating science show on liquid nitrogen and dry ice experiments mesmerized attendees, while Milind Deshmukh from Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti debunked superstitions with scientific reasoning.
Visitors engaged with student and teacher projects, an interactive puzzle zone, astronomy observations, and live science demonstrations. The online quiz Mysteries of the Universe saw enthusiastic participation.
