New Delhi, 17th August 2023: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in informal discussions regarding the disengagement of frontline troops at the remaining two points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), as per credible sources.

These informal talks took place during the recent BRICS Summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Johannesburg, South Africa. The 19th round of Corps Commander-level talks between India and China transpired on August 13-14 at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.

During these discussions, both parties delved into the resolution of pending matters along the LAC’s Western Sector, maintaining a positive, constructive, and comprehensive dialogue. Abiding by leadership directives, they exchanged views in a forward-looking manner, as outlined in an official press statement.

Trustworthy sources shared that high-level strategic discussions are underway, with indications pointing towards a favourable outcome shortly.

In a prior meeting between Doval and Wang Yi at the BRICS NSAs’ gathering in Johannesburg, Doval emphasized that the LAC’s situation since 2020 had eroded strategic trust and the foundational underpinnings of the two countries relationship.

Doval underscored the significance of ongoing efforts to resolve the situation, restore tranquillity in border regions, and normalize relations between the two nations. Wang Yi, on his part, expressed the need to bolster strategic mutual trust, prioritize consensus and cooperation, overcome obstacles, and promptly steer bilateral relations towards sound and stable development, according to China’s state-run news agency Xinhua.
