NCC Maharashtra Cadets Win 6 Gold, 5 Silver Medals At Inter Directorate Sports National Shooting Championship

Pune, 19th July 2022: Seven senior division boys, one junior division boy and nine senior wing girls, a total of 17 cadets from various National Cadets Corps (NCC) groups of Maharashtra represented NCC Directorate Maharashtra at the Inter Directorate Sports Shooting National Championship 2022 at Chandigarh Punjab under the aegis of PHHP and C Dte from 4th to 15th July.

The Maharashtra Directorate Shooting Team (MDST), by winning Six Gold Medal, Five silver Medals and One Bronze Medal, were the Champion Team of the Championship among 17 State Directorates. The competition was conducted in the 50 meter Open and Peep sight weapon category. In addition, the 10 Mtr Air Rifle selections were also conducted and both the participants of the Maharashtra team earned their Gold Medals and have been selected to participate in the GV Mavlankar National Shooting Championship to be held later this year. This effort is in continuation of the winning streak of the NCC Directorate Maharashtra for a consecutive year. In 2021 Maharashtra stood first and in 2018 & 2019 stood second.

Brigadier R K Gaikwad, Gp Cdr, NCC Gp HQ, Pune took on the responsibility on behalf of the Maharashtra Directorate to select and train the cadets for the competitions. Raw talent was picked up after a series of Inter Battalion and Inter Group Competitions amongst all the groups in Maharashtra. These cadets were further put through tough training, equipped with the best shooting gear and given professional coaching under professional coaches and guided by Col Satish Shinde officer in charge MDSTand the permanent Instructor Staff of 36 Mah Bn NCC, Pune. The seventeen members of the Maharashtra Directorate Shooting Team had eleven cadets from Pune Gp. The team were given extensive coaching and firing practice first at the short range at the Gp HQ, Pune and later at Balewadi Shooting Range.

The Maharashtra Directorate Shooting Team stood first with 8286 points and Tamilnadu Directorate second with 8091 points and Bihar and Jharkhand Directorate third 7532 points. All 16 cadets of the Maharashtra Directorate Team qualified to compete at the All-India G V Mavlankar Shooting Championship- 2022 (AIGVMSC-2022). All 16 x Cadets qualified with the MQS (Minimum Qualifying Score) to compete at the All India Shooting Championship scheduled later this year. The qualified cadets of the Maharashtra Directorate will now represent the DGNCC Team at the All-India G V Mavlankar Shooting Championship- 2022.

Maj Gen YP Khanduri, ADG NCC Directorate Maharashtra complimented the qualifying cadets and the medal winners and wished them best luck for the All-India G V Mavlankar Shooting Championship – 2022.
