NCC Republic Day Camp 2016 Commences

The NCC Republic Day (RD) Camp 2016 began at the NCC Camp, Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt on 01 Jan 2016. Director General NCC Lt Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty delivered the welcome address to all Cadet on the occasion.
2069 Cadets including 695 girl cadets drawn from 17 NCC Directorates, covering all the States and Union Territories of the Country are participating in this Camp. This also includes 102 cadets from J&K and 162 cadets from North Eastern Region (NER). The cadets are selected through a tough selection process. The cadets attending the camp follow an intense schedule over one month while participating in a number of activities like cultural, National Integration Awareness Programme and Institutional Training Competitions. The camp will be visited by a large number of civilian dignitaries including the Vice President of India, Defence Minister, Chief Minister of Delhi, Minister of State for Defence, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Army Staff and Vice Chief of Naval Staff.

The aim of the Republic Day Camp is to provide the cadets an exposure to the rich culture and traditions of our nation and the important events that take place in the National Capital during the run up for Republic Day besides projecting to the nation the cherished ideals and capabilities of the cadets of the NCC. The camp portrays a reflection of “Mini India”.

While speaking to the media, the Director General highlighted the major achievements of the NCC in Nation Building, Social Awareness Campaigns, Community Development, Environment Protection, Sports and Adventure. The conduct of NCC National Games in Oct 2015 has added another feather in the cap of this premier youth organization of the nation. The DG mentioned that approx 9.50 lakh NCC cadets participated at 1767 venues Pan India on 21st Jun 2015 and set a record on International Day of Yoga. A certificate by Limca Book of records to this effect was handed over to NCC on 24th Sep 2015 in the presence of the Defence Minister. For the first time ever, the NCC won the prestigious Jawahar Lal Nehru Hockey tournament in the Boys Category in 2015. He also apprised that in 2015, NCC conducted two Mountaineering Expeditions to Mt Deo Tibba and Mt Trishul and in 2016 an all Girls expedition to Mt Everest is planned.

Lt Gen A Chakravarty also mentioned that the Training Philosophy of the Cadets had been refined to accommodate the changing aspirations of our youth and expectations of the society. The focus is to facilitate soft skills and personality development of the Cadets.
