Kothrud, 4th June 2025: In a significant infrastructure development for Kothrud residents, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has cleared the last obstacle for the construction of a new 15-meter-wide road that will connect Eklavya College to the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass. The long-pending project has moved forward following the acquisition of approximately two gunthas of land belonging to the Bandal family.

The proposed road, marked in the city’s Development Plan (DP), originates from Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, passing through Ashish Garden, Guruganeshnagar, Surajnagar, Kumbre Park, and Eklavya College. However, it had been stalled for years due to land acquisition challenges at the final stretch near Eklavya College.

Speaking on the breakthrough, Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of PMC’s road department, said, “The Bandal family’s land has now come into the possession of the Municipal Corporation. With this, the only hurdle in completing the full-length road has been removed. Asphalting work will commence in the coming days.”

Once completed, the new road will provide an alternative route for commuters heading to the highway from Paud Road and Mahatma Society, helping ease congestion on these busy roads. “This new link will facilitate smoother traffic movement and offer citizens another exit route from the interior parts of Kothrud,” Pawaskar added.

The road is expected to significantly benefit daily commuters and residents of western Pune by offering quicker and less congested access to the bypass.
