Alandi, 27th February 2025: A new coaching depot is set to be constructed at Alandi Railway Station for the Pune-Satara Railway Line at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore. The depot will handle the maintenance and repair of approximately 100 coaches daily, making it the second such facility in the Pune division. It will also service Vande Bharat Express and New Modified Goods (NMG) coaches.

Due to space constraints at Pune Railway Station, the Railways has chosen Alandi for this project, where around 10 acres of land is available. The depot will include pit lines for coach repairs, stabling lines for parking, and a sick line for isolating damaged coaches. These facilities will ensure smoother rail operations by keeping Alandi’s loop line available for traffic.

The proposal has received approval from Central Railway and is awaiting final clearance from the Railway Board. Once approved, funding will be allocated, and construction will begin. The new depot is expected to increase maintenance capacity beyond the current 23 rakes serviced at Pune Railway Station, benefiting passengers with potentially increased train frequency.

The project will also reduce the burden on the Ghorpadi Coaching Maintenance Complex, which currently handles around 300 coaches daily. Additional Divisional Railway Manager Padma Singh Jadhav confirmed that the depot would significantly alleviate pressure on existing facilities and enhance operational efficiency in the Pune division.
