NIA Takes Over Investigation of Bengaluru Violence At KG Halli and DJ Halli Police Stations

Bengaluru/New Delhi, September 22, 2020: On 11th August, at around 8 pm, more than 1000 people gathered in front of the house of Congress MLA Naveen Srinivas Murthy (Pulakeshi Nagar constituency) at Kavalbyrasandra, Bengaluru City. The mob was protesting against the derogatory Facebook post about Prophet Mohammed made on 11.08.2020 at around 4 pm by Naveen, nephew of the MLA allegedly insulting the religious sentiments of the Muslims.

The mob attacked the house of Naveen Srinivas Murthy, MLA, Pulakeshi Nagar constituency, Bengaluru City. And later on, the mob went on a rampage in DJ Halli, KG Halli and Pulakeshi Nagar area under Bengaluru City. They attacked the DJ Halli PS and KG Halli PS police stations and vandalized the property of police stations including government and private vehicles parked in the police stations.

The state secretary of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Muzamil Pasha had earlier scheduled a meeting and directed the members of Popular Front of India (PFI)/SDPI to instigate the mob and incite violence.

Yesterday, as per the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order, NIA took over the investigation of the two cases of arson and violence wherein Unlawful Activities had been invoked by Karnataka State Police. Notably, large scale violence had been caused by miscreants in DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations, Bengaluru City on 11.08.2020. The NIA team, headed by an IG-rank officer, is camping at Bengaluru in connection with the investigation of these cases, NIA stated in a press release.
