Camp, 15th September 2023: Three illegal hoardings set up in Pune Cantonment and six in Dehu Road Cantonment have been knocked down today, in a collective action carried out by Defence Estate Officer (DEO) Pune Circle, Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) and Dehu Road Cantonment Board (DCB).

When contacted Subrat Pal, CEO of PCB, said, “Six big hoardings were removed and out of that three were taken down by the violator. These were illegal hoardings put up on defence land.”

Amit Mane, Defence Estate Officer said, “The illegal hoardings had been present for quite some time. The demolished structures present at Napier Hotel, Near SGS Mall, and near ISKCON Temple in PCB measured 15 x 20 feet and the ones found in Dehu Bazar, DCB measured 8 x 10 feet. When we found these structures, we sent notices to the owners yesterday prompting them to remove the structures immediately. We will send notices for the loss of rent caused to the hoarding owners and investigate this matter thoroughly.”

According to civic experts, the hoardings set up more than two years ago fetch around Rs 20 lakh annually and total revenue runs into crores. Apart from escaping the rent, the illicit hoardings were also using unauthorized electricity to illuminate these structures. In the last year, Pune has witnessed a significant number of hoarding mishaps causing several casualties. Installation of illegal hoardings is often not properly audited and poses a great risk to human life.
