No Reserved Coaches For Women In Pune Metro For Now, Decision To Be Taken In Future
Pune 6th Oct 2023: The officials of the Pune Metro have decided to remove the signs of ‘women only’ from all stations on the functional routes. The decision was taken after it was noted that there was uniformity in the allotment of coaches as the signs placed on metro stations kept did not match with the coaches at all stations.
At some stations, the signs show the first coach as reserved for women while on others it shows the last coach reserved for them. However, the regular passengers claim that nobody follows the reservation signs and men and women both board all coaches.
The metro officials have no specific data to identify the number of male and female passengers using the metro service and the officials claim that there is no need to introduce reservation for women as the footfall is not much and the stations are not crowded. Every passenger travelling in the train can easily board the train and there is no crowding at stations or inside the trains. However, the metro authorities also said that they will conduct a survey to find the number of male and female passengers in future and the coaches will be reserved for women when the need arises.
