Kothrud, 27th January 2023: The route from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk has become destitute without political as well as administrative support. All the work for the said track is stuck because of who should spend the money for this route of only 1.25 kilometres.

Devendra Fadnavis had given assurance in this regard when he was the Chief Minister. After that Mahametro also prepared the project report for this line. However, it is lying in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Without political as well as administrative support, there has been no further movement on this proposal. This project report was then submitted. At the same time, Mahametro submitted the project report of both the existing metro lines from Pimpri to Nigdi and from Swargate to Katraj. Both these reports of the extended route have gone from the Municipal Corporation to the State Government and from there to the Central Government as well. However, the report of 1.25 kilometres from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk is still pending with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

The average cost of this route is only Rs 343 crores. It will have two stations after Vanaz namely Kothrud and Chandni Chowk. Talking about the metro project in Pune, the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that a decision will be taken soon about these extended routes.

However, the project report of the extended route from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk was not forwarded by the Municipal Corporation. All the metro work up to Vanaz has been completed. A large depot of Mahametro has also been constructed further from Vanaz station.

It is a relatively easy matter to start metro work from Vanaz onwards to Chandni Chowk. This route of 1.25 kilometres will take very little time. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in majority in the Municipal Corporation for five consecutive years. The post of mayor was also held by the BJP. Along with the rulers, the opposition also does not seem to have made much effort for this path. It does not seem to be seen as an important work in the city even by the administration.

Earlier, Mahametro had shown readiness to work on the said track. However, after that Mahametro began to demand many metro routes from the city. The Municipal Corporation also passed a resolution and asked to prepare a project report for the roads from Pimpri onwards to Nigdi and from Swargate onwards to Katraj. It also included the route from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk.

Mahametro spent a lot of time deciding whether to tunnel the Swargate to the Katraj route or elevate it over the road. The administration says that the matter of Vanaz to Chandni Chowk has fallen behind. If this route becomes a reality, it will be beneficial for the citizens of Kothrud. Keeping that in mind, the local political officials need to follow up on it.

The State Government as well as the Central Government need to intervene in expenditure planning. As planned for the ongoing work, it is possible to start work on this route immediately. Even though the Guardian Minister is from Kothrud, it seems that nothing is being done in this regard.
