Hyderabad, 10th September 2021: Telangana government is likely to launch ‘Medicine from the Sky’ initiative in partnership with World Economic Forum, NITI Aayog and Healthnet Global on Saturday.

Under this project, Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights will be used in identified areas of Vikarabad district. The airspace will be used to distribute vaccines and medicines.

This project will be launched on Saturday at the Police Parade Ground located in the SP office of Vikarabad district. This information has come to light after getting the final regulatory approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to conduct the project.

Ahead of the launch, three of the eight selected consortiums, namely the Bluedart Made Express Consortium (Sky Air), the Helicopter Consortium (Marut Drones), and the Curisfly Consortium (TechEagle Innovation), have already reached Vikarabad. Their drones are under trial through VLOS and BVLOS flights.

In order to test the capability of their drones at fast long ranges and heavy payloads to establish reliability, the officials concerned will continue to conduct tests. The project is first of its kind in India as it is the first organized BVLOS drone trial in the country and is also being conducted in healthcare like domain.
