Pune, 20th August 2021: A shocking incident of loading a two-wheeler, along with its rider, on the towing van happened on Thursday evening near Sant Kabir Chowk in Nana Peth.

The bike owner requested the traffic police personnel and private contractor staff that he was waiting on the roadside for a couple of minutes. He asked them to not act against him as he was about to leave the place. However, the traffic police lifted his two-wheeler, along with him.

After the video of the incident went viral, the Pune city police traffic branch went on defensive mode.

Speaking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rahul Shrirame said, “The vehicle was parked in the no-parking zone, our workers were about to lift the bike and suddenly the owner of the vehicle jumped out of nowhere and sat on the vehicle. He was asked to get off as he might get hurt or have some injuries, but he was not listening and was given a warning that this could be an obstruction in government work. Later, he got down from the bike. He accepted his mistake and paid the fine and the towing charges. He paid a total fine of Rs 460. There was a misunderstanding and we have done everything through legal means.”

When asked how he can jump so far that the man can be seen in the video that he is being lifted with the bike, the DCP replied, “I have spoken to our workers and traffic policemen. We even spoke to the man, he isn’t present here. He is afraid and doesn’t have any complaints. He had jumped on the bike when it was already lifted, and this was an emotionally motivated action.”

The officer did not reply when asked why the bike was lifted so high when the man was sitting on it.

About any action against the erring staff, DCP Shrirame said, “This incident happened within minutes. The workers should have taken care, and they will be removed from their work.”
