On World Hypertension Day, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital to organize free Blood Pressure checkup camp

Marking the occasion of World Hypertension Day on 17th May, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, Maharashtra’s first Joint Commission International (JCI), USA and NABH accredited Hospital is organizing free Blood Pressure checkup camp for citizens at 25 places across Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune. The places were free Blood Pressure check up camp will be conducted are Dange Chowk, Bhel Chowk in Nigdi, Parihar Chowk in Aundh, Dagdusheth Mandir, Shivaji Nagar Bus stop, Pune Railway station, Pune airport, Mezza 9 square in Hinjewadi, Dasara Chowk in Balewadi and in few major IT and Automobile companies mainly Quadron, Hexaware & L&T Hinjewadi and CNH Industrial & Mahindra Heavy Engines, Chakan. Moreover, free ECGs will be conducted at Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital and Aditya Birla Health Stores for the individuals detected to have high blood pressure.

According to a government study, one in every eight Indian above 30 years of age is suffering from high blood pressure and only about 40% of urban Indians with hypertension know they have it, and only 20% are taking active measures to keep it in check. It is also found that India is home to about 200 million adults with high blood pressure.

“Over a billion people all over the world suffer from hypertension and it is predicted to increase by 60 percent to 1.56 billion in 2025. It kills 8 million people every year worldwide”, shared Ms. Rekha Dubey, CEO, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital. “Blood pressure should be monitored regularly because it is a barometer of health and there are often no symptoms to alert one to the presence of high BP. It’s a silent killer. High blood pressure can cause countless problems like stroke, heart disease, kidney failure. So, it’s better to keep it under control by adhering to lifestyle changes or appropriate medicines if indicated”, she further added.
