Onion Thieves Strike Again, Steal 2000 Kg Onions

Chakan, September 30, 2020: Thieves stole 41 bags containing 2,000 kg onions from the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC). The theft took place at Shel Pimpalgaon.
Abhijit Baban Masalkar (36, resident of Jategaon Khurd, Tal. Shirur) has lodged a complaint at Chakan Police Station. Police have filed a case against the unidentified thieves. According to police, Masalkar shops at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee at Shel Pimpalgaon. They are onion traders. Unidentified thieves have stolen 41 sacks of onions worth Rs 65,600. The incident took place between 9 pm on Friday (September 25) to 7 am on Saturday (September 26).
The demand for onions has increased and new onions have not yet come in the market. As a result, the price of old onions has gone up. Onion is being sold at Rs 50 per kg in the retail market. Onion prices in the wholesale market range from Rs 30 to Rs 40 per kg. As onion became more expensive, the number of onion thefts has increased. Chakan police are investigating further.
