Online And Offline Option For PhD Oral Examination, Decision Of Savitribai Phule Pune University

Pune, 13th September 2022: Savitribai Phule Pune University PhD candidates will have their oral examination conducted in the online and offline modes. The decision regarding the examination pattern is left to the concerned guides and research centre heads, and both options will be available to them.

The University provided this information through a circular. Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, oral exams were conducted online for the last two years. Now that the spread of the virus has reduced, these exams are being conducted in offline mode. In view of these exams being held in the next few days, some professors and students requested to conduct the oral exam both online and offline.

Accordingly, the University clarified that both options are open and entrusted the decision to the guides whether to take the exam online or offline. The University mentioned that if the guidance and the head of the research centre are adamant about conducting the examination in offline mode, then the students will have to attend the oral examination in person.

If there is no consensus between the head of the research centre and the guide regarding whether the examination should be conducted offline or online, the relevant decision will be taken by the Head of that Department. Students will have to accept the unanimous decision regarding the examination. It will be compulsory to take the exam in the same manner as directed by the guide or head of research.

As the PhD oral exams were conducted online without any hindrance during the pandemic, approval was given by the University to take the exam in both ways.
