Pune, 19th July 2024: Amid the crisis facing Pune’s nightlife, with over 70 clubs sealed and more than 150 facing action from the PMC and excise department, a message is circulating that no bars can allow dancing within Pune City Police limits. Hoteliers are now seeking help from the Pune District Collector and the High Court, citing revenue losses. Members of the hotel association are questioning why different rules apply to Pune compared to other cities in Maharashtra.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told Punekar News that clubs without discotheque licenses are not permitted to allow customers to dance. Notices have been issued to several clubs for violating this rule, and licenses may be canceled.
Additional CP (admin) Arvind Chawariya stated that notices have been sent to 15 of the 22 clubs with discotheque licenses for violations.
According to police records, only 22 clubs in Pune have discotheque licenses, and 15 of these are served notice due to violations.
A hotel association member expressed concerns about the financial struggles faced by the industry since the Porsche incident, with many hoteliers planning to shift out of Maharashtra due to perceived lack of government support for the hotel industry.
