AICTE Chairman stressed on skill development to create entrepreneurs & startups

Pune, 14 October 2017: ‘‘Unlike many other countries, in India, we depend on diploma or degree certificates. Our education is certificate based& not knowledge driven,’’ commented Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) at a lecture organized by Pune International Centre (PIC).

He was speaking on ‘Skilling the young for future’, where he stressed the need to have our entire skill development drivenprogram towards creating entrepreneurs & startups. Prof. Amitav Malik, Trustee, PIC, Dr. Deepak Shikarpur, IT Expert, Prashant Girbane, Honorary Director, PICwere present at the event.

We must channelize the demographic dividend through skilling, Saharsrabudhe stressed. Also he said that ‘Learning to Learn’ is going to be very important for students. ‘‘Availability of jobs is decreasing & big companies are laying off. On the other hand, there is a huge difference between students graduating & graduates that are actually employable. With emergingtechnology and the advent of robots, human resources required in many sectors will probably become less. It is a challenge to train people better than robots, so that the robots will not be required in some areas,’’ he said.

While clearing the air around school dropouts,he also mentioned that, ‘‘Many students are dropout after eighth standard. Every student has some interest in his/her life. Some are not interested in Mathematics, Science or History, either because they do not like it, or the teacher taught that subject in a way that made the student not liking it. Therefore, when we say that the students are dropping out, are we forcing them out is an introspection that we need to do.’’
