Pune, 25 March 2021: The Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA), in collaboration with DePaul University, will be conducting the third edition of the International Gender Conference on the 25th, 26th and 27th March 2021. The conference will be conducted on a Virtual Platform.

Taking forward from last year’s successful conference which tackled the theme of Identity-Breaking Ground, IGC 2021 will address the theme Pandemic: A Gendered Experience.

The Pandemic that we are living through is a monumental event in human history and there is no way of knowing how it will play out.

Disease outbreaks affect women and men differently and often worsen existing gender inequalities. While certain regions of the world are no strangers to disease and epidemics, the sheer magnitude of the pandemic has had an unforeseen impact on a number of countries with frail social protection and health systems, these situations of vulnerability are exacerbated.

Crises like these not only intensify existing gender inequalities they also intersect with the vulnerabilities of groups like ethnic minorities, migrants, older adults, people with functional diversity or reduced mobility, homeless people and sex workers, among others.

This conference aims to address and have conversations around issues related to the economic, psychological, legal and social implications associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The consequences of this pandemic require multidisciplinary deliberations that take into account the diversity of its effects.

The panel of speakers for the conference tracks will feature individuals from a myriad of fields. Attached is the Schedule of the Three Days Conference for your reference.
